Hopes for the Future

With the election behind us, our country turns hopeful eyes to the future.  I have a few hopes of my own.

I congratulate our first African-American president-elect.  Martin Luther King, Jr. certainly would be proud to see this day.  We are stronger for embracing diversity, and I am hopeful that we can continue working through the tensions and wrongs of the past and become a more just and colorblind society.  I hope this new administration will help bring us together, and not further divide us.  I have always found that freedom is the best way to break down barriers.  A free society emphasizes the importance of individuals, and not because they are part of a certain group.  That’s the only way equal justice can be achieved.

We will face more tough economic problems during this new administration.  In fact, the worst is yet to come.  A vast amount of problematic mortgages have not begun to reset their variable interest rates and go into default.   We already have unprecedented deficits, spending is out of control, and more big industries are coming to government with their hands out.  My hope is that this administration will handle this economic crisis better than the interventionists and big government spenders of the 1930’s, the bureaucrats that prolonged the Depression.  I hope that new government programs and spiderwebs of red tape do not pop up to interfere with American productivity, and that we can quickly get our financial footing again.  We have to understand that an economic correction needs to take place and the only way out of the coming recession is to go through it.  Efforts to avoid it can only prolong it.  I hope we can somehow find our way back to sound money and reject corporate cronyism.

We cannot address our budget problems at home without changing our disastrous foreign policy abroad.  I am hopeful that the new administration can take on the mantle of peace and diplomacy in foreign policy that many Americans feel they were promised.  Many other nations also have this hope, which exudes from their congratulatory sentiments offered after the election.  They hope that national sovereignty will be respected.  They hope that through diplomacy violence and war can be averted.  I hope so too.  One thing is unquestionable: our aggressive foreign policy of the past has been costly, in blood and in treasure.  Our treasure is running out, and fewer volunteers are stepping up to enable that foreign policy.  So for these reasons, if we are to continue to have an all-volunteer military, and see prosperity again in the future, I have every reason to hope our foreign policy will change.  In order for it to remain the same, mandatory military service would have to return, as well as accelerated theft through debt and inflation to pay for it.  I have a hard time imagining popular support for these policies, simply for the sake of war and conquest, when we clearly want peace.

I have many hopes for the future in this time of transition.  But I have seen this country face many forks in the road, and sadly take the wrong one too many times.  We have heard a lot of talk, and it remains to be seen what actions and specific policies that talk will translate into.  So while I may be hopeful, I remain deeply concerned about our future.

I supported you in our local convention last summer here in Kennewick, WA.

But, I have to disagree with your statements about B.Obama. He is half black and half white. He and his disciples conveniently forget the white part.
I would have no problem voting for a qualified person of any ethnic background.
This cry for diversity is a veiled attempt to divide and separate the country. In our own community this rush for diversity has taken the form of changing the mission of United Way away from such programs as Meals on Wheels and redirected it to the growing diverse members ( illegal )of our community.
I deliver Meals on Wheels and resent this change. Shouldn't we take care of our citzens first?
Shouldn't we be Americans and not separate?
Diversity has become the PC buzz word and promotes separation instead of unity. Didn't we learn that in sports and the military service?

With Rep. Rahm Emanuel as Obama's choice for chief of staff, it's clear that Obama intends to continue an interventionist foreign policy. Involuntary servitude for all Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 is also one his plans.

From:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahm_Emanuel

"Rahm was a civilian volunteer in the Israel Defense Forces during the 1991 Gulf War and was born an Israeli citizen due to his father's (dual) Israeli-U.S. citizenship, but relinquished his Israeli citizenship when he turned 18."

"Emanuel supported the October 2002 joint Congressional resolution authorizing the Iraq War, differentiating himself from all nine other Democratic members of the Illinois Congressional delegation (Sen. Richard Durbin, Reps. Bobby Rush, Jesse Jackson, Jr., Bill Lipinski, Luis Gutiérrez, Danny K. Davis, Jan Schakowsky, Jerry Costello and Lane Evans) elected in 2002."

From:

http://www.examiner.com/x-536-Civil-Liberties-Examiner~y2008m11d6-Obamas-chief-of-staff-choice-favors-compulsory-universal-service

Emanuel also "calls for, among other things, compulsory service for all Americans ages 18 to 25."

The following excerpt is from pages 61-62 of the 2006 book, The Plan: Big Ideas for America:

"It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service. ...

"Here's how it would work. Young people will know that between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five, the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service. They'll be asked to report for three months of basic civil defense training in their state or community, where they will learn what to do in the event of biochemical, nuclear or conventional attack; how to assist others in an evacuation; how to respond when a levee breaks or we're hit by a natural disaster. These young people will be available to address their communities' most pressing needs."

Rep. Paul,

I hope that you will continue pushing forward with your ideas that have spurred many to consider the Third Parties this past election. My belief is that only a Top-Down change is possible at this time. I urge you, and any like minded Conservative-Libertarians to abandon the failing Republican and Democrat parties, and join together* As Elected Officials * in a Third PArty, that can better represent the people of this country. With the stranglehold that the two major parties have at this time, a grassroots effort to build something new from the ground up is doomed. Only with courageous elected officials leading the way will an alternative political choice ever be possible.

Thank-you for your continued service

Well said, again, Dr. Paul, but I must respectfully disagree with your sentiment that our "embracing" of diversity has made us stronger. I think that's a claim that is often made without any evidence. Adding different-colored people doesn't automatically make anything better (or worse, for that matter).
I'm also skeptical that we as a society can become "colorblind". I think you'd be surprised at the number of non-white people who do not desire that. For many black people that I've spoken to (for example), being black is an important part of identity, and when they're told that someone "doesn't see their race", they actually take mild offense. We as European-derived people have a tendency to strive for "colorblindness", simply for the sake of not offending people. I think it's possible, though, to acknowledge race and ethnicity without outright discrimination.

Hey Turtle, next time check out Dr. Paul's voting record, and you'll see why you just made a complete fool of yourself with your ignorance. Better yet, search for "Ron Paul Stop Dreaming" on Youtube, it has a rundown of what Dr. Paul voted for at the end of the video. You'll see why no one comes even close to Dr. Paul's integrity. The person you were describing is Obama. If you listen to Obama's speeches and then check out his voting record (Something I'm sure you haven't done like 99% of Obama supporter's I've met), you'll see they are VERY different. Oh and BTW, if you compare the Neo-Cons and the Democrats voting records, you'll see a remarkable resemblance. Infact, Dr. Paul voted more times AGAINST Bush's policies than the Democrats did. Next time, get off your butt and do your research like we did.

I have only visions of a stronger U.N.,illegal immigration run amuck,(if thats more possible),gun owners rights replaced by marshall law, higher taxes, and God forbid, another 'staged 9-11'. All of this along with the possible nomination of three liberal top court judges in the next four years, constitutes a complete disaster for Liberty. Like you dear Sir, I pray for the best, but am bracing for the end of our God given Republic. However, dont anybody blame me, I voted for Ron Paul in the Missouri primary. P.S. Where are the patriots who will take on the task of confonting the flood of disiformation spread by the mainstream media, the greedy corporate manipulators and panic mongers and the current "leaders" we have in Washington. I fear I will wake up and own GM, in a month the newly founded American Express Bank will need some money and so on. As a new graduate I can see the selling off of the country I was raised to think I was going to be living in. It is hard for me to be optimistic and I always look to you as a voice of hope. I, too, would love to see an end to our country's meddling but I fear that the Persians want us tied up over there a little longer. They will want to make sure we never get involved in their affairs again and the best way to do that will be to keep us bogged down in their tarpit. I would not be surprised if we were attacked again just to keep us over there to bleed a little more blood and treasure from us while we're already kicked and down on the ground (economically speaking).

It's interesting what Steve G. (above) discovered and wrote about Rahm. All that needs to happen now is another terrorist incident to give the politiciuans cover to reinstate the draft.

Honorable Ron Paul,

Thank you for all that you have done for this nation. You are a true statesman and I consider you one of my hero's; along with Mother Theresa and Thomas Jefferson.

I have two questions. Why do you use the term African-American? Hasn't the hyphenated-American significantly contributed to the separation and discord among Americans? Isn't the use of the politically correct speech code language a significant part of the Orwellien New Speak that we suffer from today. Isn't it a butchering of the English language that serves no other purpose than to control and manipulate our thoughts?

Also, what is your position on the claim that Barack Obama is not a natural born American Citizen, and therfore Constituionally ineligible to hold the office of President. Why has he refused to provide a birth certificate and why have his birth records been sealed by the governor of Hawaii? Have you read the brief filed with the Supreme Court that makes this claim?

Respectfully and appreciativly yours,

First, since the whole financial system is bankrupted put it in bankruptcy receivership as outlined in the Constitution. This includes the private Federal Reserve System.
Second, pass The Home Owners and Bank Protection Act of 2007. By putting a moratorium on home foreclosures America's greatest asset, the people, will be protected. The mortgage problem can be dealt with later. The Chartered Banks are necessary for the function of the community. They must be saved and protected. The investment banks, commercial banks, hedge funds, equity funds, derivatives, etc. (all those institutions that leveraged debt beyond belief can be laid to rest in the graveyard of mistakes. And along with their demise goes their debt.)
Third, by way of treaty with the most populous nations of Russia, China, India and the USA, establish a New Breton Woods gold reserve system patterned on the FDR model of 1932 so international commerce can progress with soundness.
Fourth, issue credit as established by the Constitution in a two tiered fashion. Tier 1 would be at 1-2% issued for the purpose of building infrastructure in the USA, i.e., bridges, maglev railways, waterway levy repair, power grid upgrade, etc. This would put the machine tool capability (highly skilled workers and plants)of the USA back to work. The start up is obvious. Tier 2 would be at 4% issued to chartered banks for the everyday business that they're engaged in, i.e., agriculture, business. Don't tax people on their savings. This would stimulate capital formation for lending.

I share your concern about America's future too, Dr. Paul. I think that any American president that works for REAL change won't be President for long. So far Obama's inner circle picks don't spell change to me but just the status quo.

I spend a lot of time in India and I also fear for the third world countries that depend on money from the generousity of Americans. While for us the choices are... will we eat hamburger or steak..they are saying will we have one meal today or only every other day. I am deeply concerned not only about America, the country I love, but people worldwide and what this presidency will do to them as well.

As American citizens, we need to assume responsibility for the direction that our country is headed in. As a nation, we have become uninvolved, apathetic and self-absorbed. We have placed individuals undeserving of the honor in office and allowed them to systematically dismantle our civil liberties and shread our constitution. We have forgotten the principals that our nation was founded on, and we have all but removed the one force above all others that holds us all together. I am speaking about "One Nation under God". I have been to several rally's, marches, sign waves, ordered and distributed more flyers and dvd's than I can count, in an effort to wake up my fellow Americans who for the most part continue their slumber. As Dr. Paul has so humbly said before, one man could never impart the "Change" needed to repair the damage this nation has suffered. We need to rise up as proud American's and fight to save our county, use our voices while we still have the freedom to do so, or be content to sit back and let the powers that be take us over completely. I for one, am committed to carry on Congressman Paul's message of Liberty and continue spreading the message to those who need to hear it. Bottom line, each of us has to take responsibility and hold those in government accountable. The saying should be, America, Love it or Lose it. Do we choose to lose it?

We have a true history of what occurred unto a people, who had government leaders and other leaders of lower government with in society, who began to only think of themselves.

These self interest people were like our creditors of today: they would not let go of the debt from those who became indebted unto the creditors at the end of every seventh year as required by Lord:(Eternal) God:(Elohiym), which is recorded in the Holy Law which was given unto the seed of Abraham by Moses who received the tablets of stone from LORD God Upon Mount Sinai.
Here is what is recorded within the Holy Law:
Deu 15:7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
Deu 15:8 But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.
Deu 15:9 Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
Deu 15:10 Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
Deu 15:11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
Deu 15:12 And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.
Deu 15:13 And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:
Deu 15:14 Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.
Deu 15:15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.

The Only Way This Country Will Ever Have True Wealth Again Among Its People, Is For Us To Return Back Unto Doing Righteousness!
Deu 6:25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

Until then, we will continue to suffer the curses of iniguity!

Our financial problems have come upon us because we have religious teachers in our country who are not teaching righteousness.

Church and state is not separated, and never was!

Our religion is our way of life: how we walk, how we talk, our very own character - how we conduct ourselves every minute of the day.

I supported Ralph Nader in the election. He, like you Dr. Paul, has always been a voice of reason and a champion of the American people. I hope for the best but I don't see how anything will change as long as we are living under a corrupt system of government that takes from the weak and gives to the strong. We need a strong "principled" government. "Principles, not money, must rule if mankind is to survive....greed is the destroyer of man."

For those of you that do not understand that no man is president of this Nation unless the electorial college has chosen him!!! That has not happened yet for this election and that college will meet on the Wednesday following the second Monday of December which is next month.

So, unless Obama does receive the require number of votes by the electorial college then he is not president.

The brainwashing of the American People is stranger than fiction and their lack of knowledge of the Constitution is amazing, but that is because they have been schooled in the socialized (Communist) school of public education which is the 10th plank of the Communist Manifesto!

I, now 68 years of age, was too but I was never satisfied, so, I did what the Holy Scriptures does state: Seek and yee shall find, knock and the door will be opened, ask and yee shall receive.

When a person goes in pursuit of the "Truth" outside of the public education field, they will find the truth, if they have an open mind.

I suggest that you the readers do your diligent research into the Laws of this Nation and you will find (by Law) who is eligible to even be a citizen of The United States of America let alone be President of this Nation!!!

@Turtle:

Your assertions are nothing more than faulty generalizations.

Unlike some (not all) Republicans and Democrats, Congressman Paul's voting record clearly demonstrates his adherence to Constitutional principles, which he refuses to sacrifice for political gain.

Responses to Turtle’s remarks that: “I have listened to your endless blathering about principles, yet you remain a member of the political party that has created every economic and foreign policy disaster you pretend to be opposed to. Like all Republicans, the only "principles" you adhere to are hypocrisy and cowardice.

Where is the logic that just because one is running on a particular party that one would agree with those present policies of that party? I have followed Ron Paul’s voting record, as well as his beliefs over 30 years. I have found them consistent, and a man of the highest integrity.
If he was a lackey for that party they would have promoted him as a candidate, and they (the party heads) would not have ban him from speaking at the Republican National Convention. This is hardly the qualities of a hypocrite and a coward! Turtle’s head must be as hard as his shell.

Thank you Ron Paul for having hope in our nation.I think that people are psychologically more hopeful b/c of Obamas win. When people think they can do anything, they usually do.Alot of what can happen in our country depends psychological perception. Also, Obama didn't vote for the Patriot Act.
I just hope people realize they can achieve w/out govt. so we don't go the way of socialism.

Dear Dr. Paul, Our pastor's sermon on Sunday was II Chron. 7:14, God is our hope. NOW, if we will pray for our leaders and our country, and write letters and make phone calls, we might be able to have an impact on the future plans and programs. It is all up to God, but we are His hands and feet. God bless you, we know you are limited in what you can do, and thank you for being a sane voice in DC

Although Ron Paul has a sound grasp on economic principals and policy, his foreign policy thoughts are questionable. His veiw seems to be summed up in the end of the third paragraph of his 10-11-08 weekly column: "...for the sake of war and conquest" Where does he get the idea that America is ever in it for "conquest".

Thank you, Dr. Paul, for your wise words. This election was the first time I ever wrote in a candidate, but you were really the only person my conscience would let me vote for. I share the sentiments of Steve Gresh in his comment above, regarding Obama's community service proposal. Although apparently the word 'required' has since been removed from the proposal, I am very concerned that it was even considered in the first place. It strikes me as a fundamental misunderstanding of the limited powers of the executive branch. As well as a fundamental misunderstanding of what a 'free country' entails. God bless you, Dr. Paul, for all the wonderful work you do towards freedom.

How is it that Dr. Paul is the only voice of reason, truth, and adherence to the constitution on Capital Hill? Please keep up your effort Dr. Paul, for you have changed my world view profoundly and have given me hope that at least one of our elected representatives actually cares about the founding principles of this nation. Why won't they listen to you?

Sort of off the subject, I guess, I'd like to see Congress get their powers back. I don't see any reason one man can't stand up there and quote the thing and say, "look what we've done!"

Article 1, Section 1 is very clear. Congress has all legislative powers.

Article 1, Section 7 reafirms this in that Presidential veto must be returned to the house of origin AND that it must be read into the House Record.

We paid for it. It's ours.

Bush's signing statements are blatantly unconstitutional. They are not returned to the House of origin?

Are you also a psychiatrist? We need a few of those folks up on the Hill too, I would think.

Half of Article 1, Section 8 has been blown away, either by theft of the executive branch or by sleazy congress critters who want to avoid blame in order to keep their jobs.

Well, it's an imployer's market. I say, "give 'em what they've been dishing out. Get a job!" ;-)

I also looked up "militia" in the Constitution, and that's all been misinterpreted too.

find "militia" 6 places here.
http://usconstitution.net/const.txt

Who the heck are we anymore?

It's almost as though we've been taken over by a foreign power, because this is NOT the real Constitution.

http://usconstitution.net/csa.html#Preamble

This one is.

http://usconstitution.net/const.html#Preamble

Compare Article1, Section 9 in each, if you really want your mind blown.

As the NSA is my witness we need HELP!! ...reading that darned thing.

Is there any other possible explanation?

Greeting Ron Paul, I truly admire your loyalty to the constitution. Now is a good time to offer you intelligence to the new president. Deep down inside he is a good man and sure he has your values as well. The people have spoken and the days of racist republican is over and now we the people can hopefully live in peace. Dr. Paul:

First off, thank you for your continued bravery in our congress. You seem to be the only living voice of reason in our country.

I am glad we have taken this historic and symbolic leap toward racial equity in our country. Be that as it may, I hope four years of monumental spending proposals and bailouts will get our country ready for a leader who advocates a much smaller federal government. I supported the Republican party this year until they nominated Senator McCain. I ended up voting for Barack Obama both as a vote against neoconservatism and in the hopes that in 2012 you will not be excluded from the Republican debates!

Long live liberty and long live Ron Paul!

Hmmm. Apparently Dr. Paul is not awake to the NWO practice of 'selecting' the USA President. Obama has been chosen for his black/white status to fool the masses into thinking goodness has prevailed. 'We The Sheeple' will not suspect his administration of any elite control. But if you look into his background and consider that his birth certificate is being withheld, you will see Obama is clearly a puppet of the NWO leaders. I have never had a racist bone in my body. I rejoice that many Americans welcome a mixed-race president. But it is another false front to sneak more control onto the American people.

I am very concerned about a cash bail out of the auto industry. As an alternative let's give a tax credit to anyone buying a new car. This would stimulate sales and the economy so that ax revenues should actually increase.

Turtle, if you ever worked on Capitol Hill you will know that it isn't about your political affiliation, instead, it is about what you stand for. Dr. Paul is real, a centrist, and one of the few honorable of the 435 Reps and 100 Senators. Have you ever heard any other Republican or Democratic speak the truth like Dr. Paul? No! I know that I haven't. He is the man that the country should have been graveling and bowing to, not President Elect Obama. But because he didn't deceive the people by lying and talking about a false change. Obama has been President Elect for 1 week and he is the SAME way a raging liberal, not a man who can bring bi-partisanship. Look at who his Chief of Staff is? Real Conservative or Republican! Obama's election was one of the biggest frauds ever placed on Americans. But overall, Americans are not that intelligent, and it showed in their choice. Yet, I love this country, so I have to support him, but ONLY for the sake of the country.

My wife and I are preparing for what what has been done and what will be done with extensive survival preparation. Our home will soon be energy independent. Our cars will run mostly on hydrogen, and we will independently produce most of our food. We will not participate in the economy. Just as I once survived destruction of everything by the U.S. Government (IRS), we'll survive; and we'll enjoy watching what happened to me happen to the U.S.

Why are you not in the Capitol raising hell, instead of on Fox via telephone telling everyone what we already know.I am startng to believe that your whole movement is just about distracting patriots with false hope of legislative and electoral solutions while the rest of your cronies destroy our country and loot us into destitution. Why have you not questioned Barak Obama's citizenship, I also believe you are on the banking committee, why are you allowing this 5 trillion dollar heist to happen? Why have you not brought charges against the criminals in the Treasury and Federal Reserve? Why is the Congress allowing these criminals to blatantly ignore the government "of the people"! Either you are in on it, or you are politically correct to an extreme fault. If we are in as dire straits as you describe (and we all know it is far worse than even you will admit) then why are you not DOING something about it!

Dear Sir,
I think you are incredible. I think the election of the President Elect is incredible as well. Some people say that Mr. Obama has forgotten that he is half white. I say this is far from the truth. Mr. Obama consistently pays tribute to his white heritage however there are still a few Americans who still subscribe to the "one drop" rule. But I am not writing about that.
